sup guys I forgot to make a world-building wednesday post yesterday so here’s one now!
Each beekeeping family has a sort of coat of arms that appears on their honey labels, which provide a quick & easy way to differentiate between the wildly different brands. My story centers on the ARIZVI family, which originated in the Rhine area of Germany and entered into the beekeeping tradition in the mid-1700s. Their crest is the lion (ari) and deer (zvi); their honey is very pale in color and has a sort of tangy sweetness.
In my comic, the image of the lion and deer are taken from the names of the founders. In real life the choice of lion and deer was actually inspired by an elaborate old menorah my grandparents owned featuring those animals. Lions are a particularly prevalent Abrahamic symbol: it’s the symbol of the tribe of Judah, which King David and Jesus are both from. No word on the particular importance of deer in Judaism but antlers are fun to draw so
